Who are we?

Thames Con is run by ZM EVENTS LTD, a new events company that specialises in unique and interesting events. 


Thames Con 2019 will be confirmed soon. 

Venue Information

  • Where is Thames Con 2018 taking place?

Abingdon & Witney College,

Wootton Road,

Abingdon

Oxon, OX14 1GG

  • Is there car parking? 

There is no on site car park for attendees but there is parking 3 minutes walk away at 

Fitzharrys School, Northcourt Road, Abingdon, Oxon, OX14 1NP. This Car park will be open from 9am to 5.30pm and cost £5 for the day. There will be signs to show you the way to the event from here. If this car park is full there is addional parking in the town center which is just a 10-15 minute walk away.

  • What is the best way to get to the venue? 

By Car – When you come off the a34, follow signs for the College for parking at Fitzharrys next door to the venue. Park and walk 3 minutes or Park at the nearest public car park and walk to the venue (10-20 minutes walk).

Public transport – The closest train stations are Oxford or Didcot Parkway; from there you will need to get a bus to the venue. There is a bus stop right outside the venue. 

Walk – If you live in Abingdon, you may find it easier to walk or cycle. 

  • Is there wheelchair access?

Yes, there is wheelchair access across the entire venue.

  • Is there WiFi? 

Yes, WiFi will be available on the day – please ask at the Information Point for access codes.

  • Can I get a Press Pass? 

If you can supply proof of your media outlet and let us know the type of press you will be doing on the day, we can issue you a Press Pass which gives you free entry to the event and some interview access.  

  • What food is available? 

Please view all food vendors on the What's On page. We will add food vendors as they are booked. 

  • Is there a cloakroom?

Yes, we will provide a cloakroom facility. 

  • Will stalls take debit/credit cards? 

Some stalls do take debit/credit cards but not all of them. We do recommend you bring cash with you.

  • How much cash should I bring? 

Bring as much cash as your budget allows.

  • Is there a smoking area? 

Yes – there are designated smoking areas outside

Ticket Information

  • What does my ticket get me?

- Entry to Thames Con from 10am to 5pm

- All exhibits

- Some shows and panels (to be confirmed at a later date)

  • Where can I buy tickets?

You can do so here.

  • Do I have to buy tickets in advance?

We advise that you do due to the possibility of tickets selling out early, but if we do not sell out then tickets will also be available on the day to purchase on the door. We'll be sure to provide continual ticket availability updates. 

  • How are my tickets delivered? 

Your tickets will be sent to you via email 7-14 days before the event. You can either print them out or just show us the barcode on your phone/tablet when you enter. 

  • Do I need to pay extra for shows or panels?

Some shows or panels come under the cost of the ticket, but for others there will be an additional charge. It will state this under the description in the "What’s On" page on the website, once panels and shows have been announced.

  • Can I refund my ticket?

No – all tickets are non-refundable, but they are transferable.

  • What is the Family Bundle ticket?

This is a bundle consisting of x2 Adult tickets and x2 Young Person's tickets at a discounted price.

Guests, Autographs & Selfies

  • When will guests be announced?

Guests will be announced as soon as we have confirmation of their attendance. Guests can be announced at any point up to a week before the event. 

  • Where can I see which guest are attending?

We will add guests to the What’s On page on the website as soon as they are announced. 

  • What if I would like to suggest a guest?

You can get in touch with us through social media or via email info@thamescon.co.uk with your guest suggestions. We will explore every suggestion and try our best to get a good variety of guests. Sadly we can never guarantee an appearance.

  • What if I want to meet a guest but I’m feeling too shy?

No problem, this happens all the time and we are here to help you out! Just tell one of the friendly Thames Con staff and they will be your chaperone.   

  • Can I bring my own merchandise to be autographed? 

Of course! Guests love to see different things people bring to sign. You will be charged per autograph. 

  • Do I have to bring something for the guest to sign? 

All guests will have printed photos or a piece of artwork for you to get signed that will be included in the price of the autograph. 

  • How much is an autograph? 

Autograph prices vary according to each guest. Please see the flyer at the bottom of this page or on our guests page.

  • Can I take a selfie with a guest? 

This is entirely up to the guest on the day. Some guests will be charging for selfies and some will allow you to have one if you purchase an autograph. Either way, just remember to always ask politely! 

Cosplay

  • What is cosplay? 

Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book, TV series or video game. If you haven’t tried it then give it a go! It’s really good fun and your costume doesn’t have to be perfect, we appreciate any effort you make.

  • Can I come in cosplay? 

Please do! We have a huge number of attendees who cosplay.

  • Do you have any rules about costumes, weapons, and props? 

Yes - we'll have a document available soon.

  • Do I have to come in cosplay? 

You do not have to attend in cosplay, your geekiest t-shirt or your most comfortable shoes are also very welcome.

  • Is there somewhere for me to store suitcases for cosplay? 

Yes, there is space available over at the cosplay desk to leave suitcases.

  • My costume has broken, what can I do? 

The cosplay desk can offer assistance for repairs.

  • Is there somewhere I can get changed into my costume? 

Yes, there are changing room facilities available.

Other Information

  • Will I be filmed or photographed? 

You may be filmed or photographed, especially if you are wearing an amazing costume! We will have our own company photographers taking pictures throughout the day which will be available on our Facebook page and also local press may be filming and taking photographs. By purchasing a ticket, you give automatic permission for you to be photographed or filmed.

  • Can I take my own videos and photographs? 

Yes. Please do ask permission first from anyone you would like to video or photograph and respect their wishes if they decline.

  • Volunteering

We are looking for volunteers for a number of tasks from Friday through to Sunday morning! If you would like to help out on the day then please email us at info@thamescon.co.uk. If you are a Media student or young person needing work experience for your CV we will happily provide a reference for your day’s work with us. Please put the subject of the email as "VOLUNTEER".

  • Accommodation 

There are a number of quality and affordable local hotels in the nearby area. Abingdon is a beautiful and picturesque town on the River Thames so why not book an extra night in a hotel and have a little break!
